The Legal & Corporate Governance Executive is responsible for much of the administrative aspects of the day-to-day delivery of the Legal & Corporate Governance activity. The Legal & Corporate Governance Executive will report to the Head of Legal & Compliance.

Key responsibilities will include the review of Agency applications and onboarding including liaising with the Sales team to ensure appropriate documentation has been received to enable a determination of the application and the ongoing Agency administration including the checking of regulatory status. The Legal & Corporate Governance Executive will also be responsible for the completion of Subject Access Requests made under Data Protection Legislation and the maintenance of the Regulatory calendars ensuring key dates are met. The Legal & Corporate Governance Executive will also assist with adminstrative tasks for Risk , Audit and general administrative support for the Head of Legal & Compliance.

Maintain the company’s regulatory manual, procedures, processes and associated documentation to ensure that it is both up-to-date and appropriate assisting the implementation of best practice throughout the business

In effect, the Legal & Corporate Governance Executive will gain experience in almost every aspect of Legal & Corporate Governance including but not limited to: agency, contracts, data protection activity, audit data compiling, process mapping, regulatory checks and assist in our regulatory compliance and assisting the Company Secretary with general company secretarial duties where required.

Your tasks

  • Agency Application Administration
    Being responsible for new agency applications. This will involve reviewing documentation lodged by the applicant and researching additional information as required. Further being aware when Applications should be passed to Head of Legal & Compliance. This will require liaising with the relevant Sales Team.
  • Ongoing Agency Administration
    Being responsible for the ongoing oversight of existing companies with whom ARAG has an agency to ensure regulatory and cotractuial position remins satisfactory. Systematically screen all agents & introducers against appropriate criteria & accept/reject accordingly. Assist the Head of Legal & Compliance in the adminstration of the Coverheolder Declarations required of ARAG’s coverholders
  • Data Protection & Subject Access Request
    Being responsible for the timely output following Data Protection requirements and Subject Access Requests, including ensuring all appropriate data on ARAG systems is collated and reviewed. This will include reviewing and redacting, as appropriate, other personal data in the documents. Mapping of Data flows and an understanding of the requirements under GDPR.
  • Quality Assurance Audits
    Being responsible for checking required quality assurance audit activity is taking place within ARAG departments as required by the Quality Assurance Policy and compiling data to allow analysis of the activity and production of reports. Ensure all internal & external audit processes/schedules are relevant & appropriate to ARAG’s needs. Conduct/Assist (with) audits as necessary. Produce internal audit reports for the Head of Legal & Compliance and other stakeholders inclusive of value of risk and appropriate recommendations for risk reduction and continuous improvement. Gather relevant data and information (e.g. KPI data) to assist the Head of Legal & Compliance to prepare for compliance themed meetings and reports.
  • Compliance Calendar
    Being responsible for the maintenance of the Compliance Team calendar to include key dates for internal activity and key dates published by Regulators.
  • General Administrative Support
    Support the Head of Legal & Compliance in administrative tasks as required periodic review of the company’s regulatory manual & all associated documentation, identifying & proposing updates/amendments as necessary.
  • Company Secretarial Duties
    Assist the Company Secretary to complete all statutory returns as required & ensure submissions are made by the relevant deadlines.
  • Work Flow Management
    Work in a semi-autonomous manner to plan & prioritise own work to meet the requirements of the Head of Legal & Compliance Officer and all other stakeholders e.g. Compliance Committee, Ireland Management and ARAG AA.

Your profile

Minimum Education and Experience
Essential Desirable
A graduate in a relevant subject, and either a) a qualified solicitor/barrister with at least 2 years PQE &/or b) strong working knowledge of regulatory functions in the insurance or finance industry and in Data Protection.

Working knowledge of the law with experience in a commercial environment e.g. a professional firm.

Evidence of a proactive, goal oriented approach with a high level of business acumen.

High level of understanding and use of MS Office applications.

Excellent numeracy & literacy skills.
Ideally you will have exposure in Financial Services and Data Protection.

A higher level of academic graduate level.

Experience of Legal Expenses Insurance.

Experience of internal audit.

Knowledge of CBI Regulatory requirements and Codes of Conduct.

Professional qualification (e.g. Institute of Company Secretaries, CIMA, CII or ILEX).
